Franz Ferdinand (2004)

The self-titled, debut album by Franz Ferdinand released in 2004 is easily one of the best indie albums of the decade.

Even 10 years later, with their skills and abilities going nowhere but up, Franz Ferdinand is still one of the hottest indie bands today.

Franz Ferdinand starts off with Jacqueline, a song that will get anyone moving.  Jacqueline, a song written about one of the band's close friend's encounters with a man in her workplace. I don't know about you, but knowing what a song is about or what it was inspired by gives it some personality, and helps me grow attached to it.

The second song is Tell Her Tonight, not sung by the lead singer but instead the rhythm guitarist, Nick McCarthy.  This is a great song, I remember one week where I could listen to nothing but it in order to stop humming it wherever I went. The guitar riffs are great and interesting, the talent of the band shines bright with this track.

Take Me Out is easily one of the best Franz Ferdinand songs ever recorded, and is one of the most well known. The catchy beat will have you stomping your feet, and the addicting guitar riff is on of the best rock riffs of all time.

Next is The Dark of the Matinee, personally one of my favorite FF songs.  It starts out strong, the beginning riff almost as strong as the one in Take Me Out.  The contrast between the strong guitars and Kapranos's silky voice is probably one of the best combinations I've heard in a while.

The point I'm trying to make is this. Any indie rock fan will hear over and over again that Franz Ferdinand is one of the best rock bands out there, compared to other bands like The Strokes and Arcade Fire. In my opinion, FF tops them all. With one of the strongest debut albums of all time, FF is definitely my favorite band.
